RUPANDEHI, July 16: Business fraternity in Rupandehi is showing indifference to the implementation of the contribution-based social security scheme the government is going to implement from the Nepali month of Shrawan( July-August).

At a press conference organized by a network of professional organizations based in Rupandehi district at Butwal on Monday, the business community said the implementation aspect of the contribution-based social security will be challenging as the government introduced the policy without taking into account such factors as  infrastructural preparation and the reality of employers.

The industrialists have urged the government to consult them prior to the enforcement of social security.

They also called for the government to classify business companies based on the amount of capital invested and number of workers as big, medium and small and fine-tune the policy with this classification in view.

Representatives of business community also noted it was impractical to immediately implement the social security policy pointing out lack of VCT technology, infrastructure and competent human resource.

Ganesh Prasad Adhikari, chairperson of Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the implementation  of  the social security policy  will inevitable result in local businesses and industries incapable of competing with their foreign counterparts becoming extinct.

He also said that the government should not compel temporary workers, daily wagers, contractual laborers to participate in the social security fund.

Among other demands put forth by business fraternity include reduction of annual amount to be collected applicable to workers from third countries, arrangement of medical treatment to the workers injured in accident and providing treatment facility at both private and public hospitals and making the payment process simple and easy.
