KATHMANDU, March 24: A cabinet meeting is being held today at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar at 4 pm to take decision on the appointment of new police chief.

KATHMANDU, March 24: A cabinet meeting is being held today at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar at 4 pm to take decision on the appointment of new police chief.

It is said that the meeting will discuss who to appoint as the Inspector General (IGP). Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh is retiring from today.


With Singh’s retirement, five AIGs are competing to become IGP. Basanta Kunwar, Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali and Kiran Bajracharya are contenders for the post of Inspector General. There is competition between Kunwar and Gyawali for the post of IGP.
