JANAKPUR, March 16: A campaign to encourage as many people to opt for electric ovens has been launched in Madhesh Province.

The campaign launched by Nepal Energy Foundation (NEF) aims at reducing the use of LPG gas cylinders in the kitchen and promote the usage of electric stoves which is eco-friendly and economic as compared to the imported LPG gas.

NEF's Secretary Dilli Ghimire shared that they would also launch an awareness drive about the clean energy to use in the kitchen in a bid to promote alternative energy and remove smoke in households. The NEF also plans to arrange grants, subsidies and finance systems to ensure the public's access to clean technology for cooking.

Import of LPG gas accounts for 2.2 per cent of total import of the country, Ghimire said, adding that import of LPG had incurred a huge financial loss to the country. A number of cases of explosion of LPG gas cylinders and loss of human lives are reported from time to time.

Secretary Ghimire said they see an urgent need to adopt clean and safe energy for cooking everywhere. He said that the campaign has also been launched to draw attention of the all three-level of government towards ensuring access of electricity and electric stove to every household.
