Delayed flights are serious issues. Despite the ever-expanding aviation industry, flight delays still prevail. According to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), domestic and international passenger traffic has increased from 1.97 million in 2000, to 5.27 million in 2016. Since TIA is the only international airport in the country, managing air traffic and checking flight timings are very important. Lets’ discuss why flights are delayed.
The prime reason is the single runway that both the international and domestic flights use simultaneously. It is difficult for the airport to manage takeoffs and landings. When flights are compelled to wait for landing, it affects the flight time.
The second reason for flight delay is bad weather. Bad weather can even cancel flights. Fog decreases the visibility and keep flights grounded until conditions improve.
Haze forces domestic flight delays, cancellations
Animals and birds also cause flight delays. During September to November, earthworms come from the ground seeking warmth. These worms are often found dead in the runway, inviting birds for a feast. This is among the main reasons why birds clash with in-flight airplanes causing damages in the plane body.
Some minor cause of flight delays are loading bag, security, boarding passengers, mechanical delay, air traffic control, aircraft preparation and so on. All of these problems are equally troubling.
So how can we control this flight delay? The parking bay is an alternative method to control flight delay. Expanding taxiway to runway 02 can also help save time and minimize flight delay. Most importantly, to effectively control traffic problems at TIA, operating Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport is the best solution. While both airports are still under construction, one can only expect for the officials to speed up the infrastructural developments at both airports.
