KATHMANDU, July 30: Nepal Volleyball Association has honored former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' for giving recognition to volleyball as the national game of the country.
The erstwhile government led-by Dahal had given recognition to volleyball as the national game at a time where there was no official national game of the country.
At a program organized at Dahal's residence, Lazimpat, today, office-bearers of the Association honored chairman Dahal and presented him a letter of felicitation.
Saying term of Dahal-led government was a golden age for volleyball, office-bearers of the Association including Chairperson Manoranjan Sharma and Vice-Chairperson Nirosi Maskey expressed the belief that there would be qualitative progress in volleyball of the country.
On the occasion, Chairman Dahal said that the volleyball was recognized as the national game as it is popular game as well as suits the country's environment.
He said, "The national game of the country failed to make its impact in the international arena. So, we gave recognition to volleyball as the national game as its alternative."
Chairman Dahal said that the state should pay special attention to the international-level competition, capacity development of players and physical infrastructure development to establish volleyball as the national game.
On the occasion, former Sports Minister Daljit Shreepaili expressed the belief that the activities initiated during his term for the development of volleyball would get continuity. RSS
