KATHMANDU, March 6: China has expressed the hope that the new coalition government formed in Nepal will change the power equation and bring political stability.
In a regular press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Beijing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that she was aware of the change in the power equation in Nepal and said that she hoped it would work for political stability and economic progress.
Fractured Popular Mandate and Political Stability
"China has been informed about the formation of a new power equation and the reorganization of the Cabinet in Nepal," she said, adding, “We hope that the relevant parties of the alliance will unite and advance the work of forming a new government and bring about political stability, economic growth and improvement in the people's livelihoods.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said that it wanted to work in a way that would benefit the citizens of both countries while answering the questions posed by the Chinese media Global Times at the regular press conference.
Spokesperson Mao said that China attaches great importance to its relationship with Nepal as a neighboring friend and cooperative partner, and is ready to cooperate with the new government based on peaceful coexistence.
"We want to maintain the five principles of peaceful coexistence with the new government, deepen our traditional friendship, strengthen practical cooperation, advance the strategic partnership of cooperation with lasting friendship for development and prosperity, and provide more benefits to the citizens of both countries," she said.
China is the first country to react after the change in Nepal's power equation on Sunday.
