China holds video conference with various countries including Nepal on prevention and control of COVID-19

KATHMANDU, March 20: China is holding video conference with more than 10 countries including Nepal to share its knowledge on prevention and control of the coronavirus.


"The video conference with Chinese authorities is currently underway," Kali Prasad Pokharel, joint secretary, who is in charge of China Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Republica Online. The video conference began early this afternoon, according to him.

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong tweeted that officials from more than 10 countries from the Eurasia and South Asia regions are joining the video conference.


"China will support and assist its friendly neighbors in the spirit of solidarity amid adversity," Weidong said.


On the occasion, the Chinese authorities told the Nepali counterparts that China is ready to cooperate with Nepal in fighting the Covid-19 and provide support and assistance within its capacity.



Officials of the Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and Prime Minister's Office are joining the video conference with the Chinese authorities.


Earlier, Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu had offered help in the form of medical support and logistics to Nepal. However, Nepal has yet to make official request to the Chinese side for the same.
