KATHMANDU, June 17: The construction of Chuhan Danda Airport has been prioritized not because it is the hometown of Prime Minister K P Oli but because this place has played a very important role in the country’s struggle for establishing democracy, said Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai.
Responding to a question at the National Assembly, he said that the airport’s construction has nothing to do with the Prime Minister’s association.

Lawmaker of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, alleged that construction of airport at Chuhan Danda was being carried out only because it is a hometown of the prime minister. “We don’t have small aircrafts for airports at such destinations. Are we going to operate wide body aircraft in that destination?” he questioned.
Minister Bhattarai sarcastically said small aircraft will be operated in the airport, but wide-body aircrafts will still fly over the airport’s location.
