CIAA begins probe into Sajha scam

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigation into the irregularities at the Sajha Prakashan.


The CIAA started its investigation after a series of news reports on irregularities were published n the Republica and Nagarik dailies. Dolindra Prasad Sharma, chairperson and general manager of Sajha Prakashan, has been accused of misusing funds provided by the government, not carrying out periodic audit, appointing those close to political leaders and media persons, not maintaining record of annual incomes, expenditures and publications, creating fake documents, breaching Sajha copyright by publishing books illegally, and transferring Rs 5 million from Sajha to GM’s account among other things.

“We have started initial investigation into the Sajha issues,” Jibaraj Koirala, spokesperson for the CIAA told Republica. “We are collecting relevant documents,” he added. Demanding a probe into the irregularities, staffers of Sajha Prakashan had filed a complaint at the CIAA on Wednesday. Hari Bhadra Ghimire and Prabha Ghimire on behalf of the staffers have registered a four-page complaint.


The Ministry of Education has already started investigations into the irregularities of Sajha by forming a three-member panel headed by under-secretary Ganesh Dhakal while the parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has also begun its investigation.


Meanwhile, GM Sharma along with Sajha board members Pradip Nepal and Dinanath Sharma cancelled their visit to Japan scheduled for August 9-16.
