KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Ram Prasad Ghimire, direct general of the Department of Mines and Geology (DoMG), on the charge of carrying out revenue leakage worth Rs 1.26 billion.
According to the CIAA, it filed the case against Ghimire at the Special Court seeking to recover the aforementioned amount. Ghimire has been accused of recovering only Rs 1.8 million in cash penalty from nine cement factories, while the actual penalized amount stood at Rs 1.24 billion.

Ghimire has been accused of benefiting Sarbottam Cement, Siddhartha Minerals, Maruti Cements, Annapurna Quarries, Udayapur Minerals Tech, United Cement, Sonapur Minerals and Oil Limited, Kanchan Quarries and Dolomite Limestone Udyog.
In May 2019, the then deputy director general of DoMG Ghimire-led committee found these cement factories over-exploiting the limestone mines. However, Ghimire later manipulated the study report to let go of these cement factories by not penalizing the full amount.
Meanwhile, the CIAA also filed cases against the accused cement factories for misappropriating government revenue.
