At a time when questions were being raised about letting former Prime Ministers Nepal and Bhattarai off the hook, the Supreme Court on August 6 ordered an investigation against all those involved in taking a decision through the Council of Ministers to register Lalita Niwas land in individuals’ names and implementing that decision.
However, the CIB is going to submit the report on Sunday two days later than the deadline given by the Office of the Government Attorney, said an officer of the CIB. The District Attorney's Office had asked the CIB to submit the investigation report by Friday, August 18.
Official records had shown that the government acquired with due compensation back in 1964 land measuring 114 ropani [5.8 hectares] at Lalita Niwas, Baluwatar. Lalita Niwas actually comprised 284 ropani and it was all nationalized back then. Over the period, the land was captured by various individuals, including Rukma Shamsher Rana.
