KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has recommended the public prosecutors to file cases against 12 individuals found guilty in the ‘spot fixing’ scam in the Nepal T-20 League, which concluded last month at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.

According to the CIB, it has completed the investigation over the scam and forwarded the list of people involved in the scam which includes Jatin Ahluwaliya and Abhishek Sakalani. Ahluwaliya is the founder and Sakalani is the CEO of Seven3Sports, an Indian company that was awarded the contract to organize the league.

Nitesh Gupta, Rahul Sharma, Sameer Sheikh, Ravi Majhi, Andrew McCarthy, Bikash Dhami, Navin Kandel, Birendra Shah, Mehboob Alam and Mohammad Aadil Ansari were also in the CIB list. Among them, the police have already arrested Nitesh Gupta, Mehboob Alam and Mohammad Aadil Ansari.

The Nepal T-20 League was held at the TU Cricket Ground from December 24 to January 12. The issue of spot fixing came to the limelight on January 8.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had entrusted the Indian company Seven3Sports to organize the T-20 league, which courted controversy right from the beginning as it was organized at the expense of other domestic T-20 leagues of Nepal. CAN had banned all other domestic T-20 leagues of Nepal arguing that the country can have only one official T-20 league that is recognized by the cricket governing body of Nepal.

According to the source, the CIB has recommended a three-year jail and a cash penalty of up to Rs 50,000 against the individuals proven guilty in the spot fixing. After reviewing the investigation report, the public prosecutors will file charge sheets at the court.
