As the doors were locked from both sides, police personnel from the Area Police Office, Banepa had to enter in by forcefully breaking the shutter. Police had recovered bottles of poison from the restaurant. Raja Ram, a local of erstwhile Tukucha Nala VDC-8, was running the restaurant in Banepa since a long time. He was married to two women and had children with both of them. His first wife used to live in the village along with her two children, while his second wife and son used to live with him in Banepa.
According to Hari Sharan Ghimire, chairperson of Banepa-2, as usual both Raja Ram and his sister Ranjana were happily welcoming and serving the customers on Friday. “I had to attend a meeting of the municipality so I had my meal at his restaurant and we even had some political discussion,” he said.
During other days, they used to shut down the restaurant early but on Friday they had stayed for longer, according to the nearby shopkeepers. It was revealed that Raja Ram had not spoken with his first wife since years. His second wife had reportedly left the restaurant for Kathmandu at around 4 pm during the fateful day.
The local police couldn't figure out whether it was a common suicide case or a planned murder. The CIB team informed that they can give answers only after getting the post-mortem report.
