“Skilled human resources should be created in line with the demand of the labor market. Otherwise, there will be situation where people will not get employment opportunities while labor market will face shortage of skilled manpower,” Minister Bista said.

He added that the government is planning to produce skilled human resources required for the local units under the new federal set up. “The government has decided to produce skilled manpower for local units which will meet out local requirement. The new education policy is also directed toward addressing the human resource gap seen in the country,” he added.

Also speaking at the conference, Mohan Ojha, president of HRSN, said that the country was facing the shortage of skilled manpower as the issue of human capital has not received priority. He also urged the government to create 'Ministry of Human Resources' to work toward development of capable human resources in the country.

Releasing preliminary findings of 'Nepal Skills Report' at the conference, Mohan Das Manandhar, the coordinator of the research team, said that the country's strategy to produce capable and skilled human resources was poor.
