KATHMANDU, May 13: The climbing of Mount Everest– the world’s highest peak– has started from today for the spring season this year.

The climbing has started after icefall doctors completed 'rope fixing' to the top of Everest this afternoon.

The climbers, who have been waiting for the climb for three weeks due to adverse weather conditions, are now happy. According to Imagine Nepal Trek and Expedition Company, which is in charge of fixing the rope to the Camp II of Mt Everest, the icefall doctors opened the road to the peak of Everest at 1:52 PM on Saturday and gave a message that climbing is now open.

"Fixing the route to the summit of Everest has been completed. Eight Sherpas and a photographer reached the peak at 1:52 PM," Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, the executive director of the company, said.

He said that since a large number of climbers are currently in the fourth camp of Everest. It is expected that a significant number of climbers will reach the peak by Sunday morning. "Imagine Nepal's Sherpa team has paved the way to the summit. Tomorrow [Sunday], from May 14 to May 20 many climbers will reach the peak as the weather of Everest seems to be good,” he said.

Other members of the rope fixing group are Nimanuru Sherpa of Solukhumbu Thame, Lakpasona Sherpa, Pasang Nima Sherpa, Lakpa Tenzing Sherpa, Phur Gyalzen Sherpa, Dawa Jangbu Sherpa and Dipen Gurung of Sankhuwasabha.

"Due to the unfavorable weather condition, the rope fixing work has been going on for a long time. The climbing has now started after the completion of the rope fixing work as the weather is favorable," Sherpa said.

Currently, hundreds of climbers are waiting for the climb around the base camp and the second camp of Everest. They will proceed towards the summit of Mount Everest according to weather conditions.

The icefall doctor had already opened the way to the South Col (fourth camp) of Everest on April 23. If the weather had been favorable, the way to reach the peak of Mount Everest would have been opened on May 4. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) made the way to the second camp of Mt Everest.

According to a senior meteorologist who is forecasting the weather for climbing Everest in the spring season, it was difficult to open the way to the peak in the predetermined season due to the strong wind blowing at 7,500 meters above Everest. s

The bad weather in that area since May 3 has now improved somewhat. Due to the wind speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, there was some delay in the ascent.

The highest number of climbers in history have taken permission to climb Mount Everest in the spring season. According to the tourism department, 467 climbers from 44 climbing groups have taken climbing permits. Of which 98 are women and 369 are men. In the 70-year long history of climbing Mount Everest, this is the highest number of climbers set to make the ascent.

To make climbing safe, orderly and dignified, the department has established a liaison office at Everest base camp to monitor and facilitate. According to the Tourism Department, citizens of 65 countries, including Nepal, have taken permission to climb Mount Everest.

On May 29, 1953, two brave mountaineers, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal and Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand, reached the summit of Mount Everest for the first time and opened the door for climbing. It has been 70 years since humans first set foot on the summit of Mount Everest.

In the history of climbing Mount Everest, about 7,000 natives and foreigners have climbed it so far. According to statistics, more than 300 climbers have lost their lives while climbing Mount Everest.

Dumbar Parajuli, President of Mountaineering Association of Nepal, said that despite various difficulties including weather, climbers can now climb Mt Everest.
