Complaint filed at Election Office against PM Deuba over his proposed Chitwan visit

KATHMANDU, May 4: A complaint has been lodged against Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the office of the Chief Election Officer in Bharatpur, Chitwan, for violating the election code of conduct. According to Chief Election Office Spokesperson Purushottam Poudel.

KATHMANDU, May 4: A complaint has been lodged against Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the office of the Chief Election Officer in Bharatpur, Chitwan, for violating the election code of conduct. According to Chief Election Office Spokesperson Purushottam Poudel.


Sunita Adhikari of Chitwan, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-10, has lodged a complaint against the Prime Minister under Article 5 of the Election Code of Conduct saying that he is going to address an election rally to be held in Bharatpur, Chitwan on Thursday.

Claiming that the program should be put off as it is against the election code of conduct, Adhikari said that the violators should be punished in case there is a violation of the election code of conduct. 


She also shared that the complaint was filed after she saw a news report that said PM Deuba and other leaders of NC were scheduled to arrive in Chitwan to support the ruling coalition candidates of Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center). 


Article 5 of the Election Code of Conduct stipulates that ministers of the federal government and provincial governments shall not engage in campaigning for or against any political party or candidate unless they are the candidates themselves. The Bharatpur Election Office has already informed the Election Commission about the complaint received against the prime minister.


Spokesperson Poudel informed Republica that Sunita had lodged her complaint along with the news published in the national newspaper. The voter id number of the complainant is 21514559.
