KATHMANDU, Dec 7: A team of representatives from the National Society for Conflict Victims has accused the government of its biased behavior against the conflict victims in resolution of their conflict-era complaints.

Submitting a memo to Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence at Budhanilakantha today, the visiting team blamed that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) were under the political influence.

Society's Chairperson Kul Bahadur Gurung bemoaned that members at the TRC subscribing to the democratic ideologies were reduced to minority status and the Commission was being a 'perpetrator' than being victim oriented.

Gurung also drew the attention of the NC President Deuba that the Supreme Court's verdict to return the land seized during the Maoist insurgency was not yet fully implemented by the government.

In response, Deuba expressed his commitment that he will make efforts to urge the government bodies to resolve the conflict victims' issues in an impartial manner.

Also today, the Federation of National Christian, Nepal submitted a memorandum to Deuba and called for declaring Christmas a national holiday. Federation president CB Gahatraj handed over the memo to the NC president.

The memo demands that the December 25 (Christmas) be declared as a public holiday yet again. The day declared as a public holiday during the leadership of Girija Prasad Koirala was reduced to holiday for only Christian government employees by the KP Sharma Oli government.

Deuba assured the visiting team that he will hold talks with the government on this issue too. RSS
