Conflict victims in Karnali to receive free treatment

JUMLA, Nov 14: Karnali Academy of Health and Sciences (KAHS) will be providing free treatment to the conflict victims of 13 districts of the Karnali region.

By utilizing a fund of the Peace and Reconstruction Ministry, KAHS will be providing free health services to the victims. Locals of Achham, Bajura and Bajhang along with ten other districts of Province 6 are expected to benefit from this service. As informed by Bishwaraj Kafle, medical registrar of KAHS, treatment for problems associated with pregnancy and reproductive diseases of women, bones and veins related problems, radiology among others will be provided for free to the destitute and poor families.

 

According to Kafle, the conflict victims with their identity cards will receive free treatment from KAHS. People from the poor and marginalized communities will be able to receive free treatment too if they have recommendation from their respective rural municipalities or municipalities.     


Chiefs of the district peace committees, chiefs of Women and Children Offices and chiefs of health offices from all 13 districts will hold a meeting soon where they will formulate an additional work plan to make this service more effective, informed Kafle. The peace fund will provide Rs 10,000,000 for buying medical equipment and providing treatment to the patients. 

 

 As of now, Dr Anup Mangal Samal in Dolpa, Anesthesiologist Dr Prabin Giri in Surkhet, gynecologist and maternity expert Dr Rajiv Sah in Jajarkot and bone specialist Dr Mangal Rawal in Humla, among others, will be providing the health services. By now, successful surgery of as many as 60 patients has been conducted in Humla, informed Dr Rawal.
