KATHMANDU, March 12: Almost half of the construction work of the 900-MW Arun-III Hydropower Project has been completed.
According to the Investment Board Nepal (IBN), the largest hydropower project of the country has witnessed 48.5 percent work progress as of now. The project has also completed 12 percent of its related transmission line.
Construction of Arun-III Hydel Project sees 62 percent progress
The project that is being constructed targeting export of electricity to India has been planned to start its production by October 2024. Following the operation of the Arun-III, Nepal will be receiving 198 MW of electricity free of cost from the project’s production.
The power project, being developed by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, India, is located in Sankhuwasabha district of eastern Nepal. The total investment of the project is estimated to cross Rs 115 billion, including Rs 11 billion for the development of the transmission line.
