Continue vote counting or go for reelections? EC to decide shortly

KATHMANDU, May 31: Following the submission of the report on the incident related to tearing up ballot papers by a probe panel, the Election Commissioners are  holding a meeting at the Office of Election Commission on Wednesday.


All the five commissioneers including Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav are holding the meeting to dwell on the issue.

The meeting is expected to come up with the decision whether to give continuity to the vote counting or go for reelections in Ward No. 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City after going through the submitted report.


The EC had formed a three-member investigation team to look into the incident related to tearing up ballot papers with votes during the vote counting underway for the Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19.


The panel led by Joint Attorney General Gita Prasad Timsina comprises Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mahesh Acharya and  Additional Inspector General (IGP) Kedarman Singh Bhandari.  


According to the latest updates, CPN-UML mayoral candidate was leading his closest rival Renu Yadav of CPN (Maoist Center) by 733 votes. 


As many as 112, 741 votes were cast in the local level elections in the metropolis on May 14.
