Five people including former Madesh Finance Minister Yadav sentenced to jail on graft case

JANAKPURDHAM, July 10: In the corruption case of Jhalanath Khanal Institute of Health Sciences, the Special Court has sentenced Bjjay Kumar Yadav, the former Finance Minister of Madhesh Province, to nine years and one month in prison.

JANAKPURDHAM, July 10: In the corruption case of Jhalanath Khanal Institute of Health Sciences, the Special Court has sentenced Bjjay Kumar Yadav, the former Finance Minister of Madhesh Province, to nine years and one month in prison.


The court found Yadav guilty in the graft case and ordered the recovery of Rs 23.53 million.

In the same case, Jhalanath Khanal Health Science Foundation's Chairman Rewati Prasad Pant, General Secretary Nawaraj Bhandari, Treasurer Niraj Bhandari, and Devendra Rai have each been sentenced to eight years in prison.


However, the former Mayor of Lalbandi Municipality, Man Bahadur Khadka and the former secretary of the Madhesh government, Prem Kumar Shrestha, have been acquitted.


On October 8, 2023, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case in the Special Court against Minister Yadav and the Mayor of Lalbandi Municipality, Man Bahadur Khadka, for illegally partnering with the Jhalanath Khanal Institute of Health Sciences in corrupt practices that resulted in a loss of Rs 179.83 million. The CIAA demanded compensation of nearly Rs 180 million.


In the budget statement for the fiscal year 2019/2020, the Madhesh provincial government announced a plan to establish a snake venom collection, processing and production center in collaboration with the institute located in Lalbandi, Sarlahi.
