Seven killed and 3 injured in Rukum jeep accident
RUKUM, Nov 26: It had just been three days that Nabin Shrestha of Rukumkot and Anita Pradhan of Itahari had tied the knot. After completion of the marriage ceremony at Anita's hometown, the couple came to Rukumkot to get the blessings of their elders.
The newly-wed couple was in a rush to resume their duties as police officers for the November 26 polls. As a result, they boarded a jeep along with other passengers on November 24 to reach the district headquarters Khalanga, from where they were planning to move to their respective workstations.

Even though the couple had planned to spend the rest of their lives happily with each other, their dreams were shattered on the way. The jeep they were traveling on met with an accident in Kalimati of Musikot Municipality-6 on Friday. At least seven persons died and three others were critically injured in the tragic accident.
The fatal accident on the eve of the elections has spoiled the election mood of both East and West Rukum. Both Nabin and Anita were police inspectors. Nabin had joined the police force from March 2014 while his wife Anita joined the service from 2015. As per his relatives, Nabin was a very patriotic and responsible police officer. He is survived by his parents, an elder sister and a younger brother.
Both of their family members are unable to accept the death of the young couple. "We lost two loyal inspectors and what else can be upsetting than this at this moment," said Shreeraj Gautam of Rukumkot, adding, "This has been a shock for all of us."
The jeep with registration number Ga1 Ja 4260 was heading from Rukumkot of East Rukum to Musikot of West Rukum when the accident occurred. The other deceased have been identified as Janak Shahi, Sudarshan Shrestha, Sher Bahadur Shrestha and Surekha Shah of Musikot municipality-1 and Yamuna Malla of Tribeni Rural Municipality-1.The driver of the jeep Prem Siujali Thapa of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-16, assistant driver Prem KC of Banfikot Rural Municipality and Tek Bahadur Khatri of Bardiya have been seriously injured.
According to DSP Rajendra Prasad Dhamala, the injured have been taken to Nepalgunj Hospital for further treatment. The reason behind the fatal accident is not yet known. Police have started investigating the case.
