KALIKOT, Sept 13: A COVID-19 hospital has come into operation here in the district.

Inaugurating the COVID-19 dedicated hospital, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that the province has registered relatively fewer cases of coronavirus as compared to other provinces.

"With the operation of the COVID-19 hospital, the compulsion of the locals of Kalikot, Mugu and Jumla and other neighboring districts to go to Surkhet and Nepalgunj for treatment has come to an end," he said.  According to him, the hospital was set up at a cost of Rs 17 million provided by the Karnali Province Government.

On the occasion, Provincial Assembly Member Kurma Raj Shahi assured that none in the district will lose their life to coronavirus with the establishment of the COVID-19 special hospital.

“The quarantine facilities set up by the nine local units earlier have now changed into isolation centres. There would be no compromise on the proper treatment of the infected people,” he added.

The newly-established hospital has a total of 54 general beds, two ICUs and a ventilator, according to the Hospital Development Committee Chair, Saroj Bogati.

Kat Bahadur Mahat from District Health Office said that there are altogether 100 persons at various quarantine facilities across the district and 20 COVID-19 patients have been receiving treatment at isolation in Tila Gupha Municipality.
