Stating that more than 700,000 people participated in the inaugural session of the UML National General Convention, Bhattarai said, "We have already set a record. Unable to break that record, the Nepali Congress decided not to hold a general convention and the Maoists Center its national conference and public demonstration.”

Bhattarai accused the coalition government of undermining all-round democratic values. He said that the executive has been destroyed due to the politics of division

Bhattarai said that the UML had the legacy of the Communist Party since its inception. "The UML has maintained the legacy of the CPN (Maoist) after the split of the mother party," he said. He said that now only UML and Nepali Congress will compete in Nepal.
