Dahal is a close relative of the chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The post of Nepali ambassador in Australia fell vacant after then ambassador Lucky Sherpa tendered her resignation last February amid allegations that she was involved in human trafficking.

The allegation was made by her former office driver. However, Sherpa in her resignation letter had said that the driver had made her a victim of character assassination.
