KATHMANDU, April 4: The CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal hinted that some factions were hindering party unification process between the MC and the UML.

Speaking at today’s parliamentary party meeting, Dahal said factions opposing the unification were creating unnecessary hurdles in the party unification, thereby delaying the same. “However, these factions won’t succeed in their attempts,” Dahal said.

He also urged parliamentarians to unite and battle against such forces and expedite party unification based on win-win condition.

Dahal’s view comes a day after two taskforces provided political and ideological documents for a unified left alliance yesterday. The Maoist chair has consistently maintained that the party would be unified in equal terms and with dignified representation.

So far, the taskforces have solved around 80 percent of contentious issues related to the merger. Key debates now comprise of power division, election symbol and recognition of the People’s war in the party’s statute.

The UML and Maoist Center, which struck a seven-point merger deal on February 19, have announced to become a single party on April 22.  However, with fresh demands from the Maoist Center, the merger is increasingly becoming uncertain.

However, senior leaders of both the parties have been vocal about party unification in the said deadline.
