BAJURA, April 19: The Dalit rights activists have been infuriated at the prospect of being denied an opportunity to run for the top posts in the ward, village council and municipalities during the forthcoming local level elections here.
The political parties based in the district are likely to leave out the Dalit leaders who have been fighting to secure the rights of Dalit while at the same time opposing injustice meted out to them. CPN (UML) District Committee member, Kitto Lwaral, said the Dalit activists if denied candidacy in the local elections would raise an ethnic issue and agitate.
Lwaral has cautioned the political parties in the district of launching an agitation if the competent Dalit leaders are not given a chance at taking up the responsibility of the top posts.
Dalit activist and Nepal Dalit Association central member, Bir Bahadur BK, shared that the Dalit leaders who have been working for the community's rights at various stages since 1989 will not be rewarded with the candidacy for the top post, deputy chief and ward chief.
The Dalit representatives have said the parties senior figures must take the responsibility themselves if Dalits are denied representation in the upcoming local polls. RSS
