DOTI, April 6:  A teenage girl who sustained severe burns to her left arm during her stay in Chhaupadi at Ganjari VDC is still groaning with pain.

Dambara Kunwar, 16, of Purbichauki Riral Municipality had sustained severe burns two months ago.

She is still undergoing painful days as she has not yet received medical treatment due to poverty.

Kunwar suffered left arm burns after the fire she lit spread over to her while she was sleeping during her period in the cow shed.

“We have no money for treatment. My daughter is growing with pain,” Nar Bahadur Kunwar, Dambara’s father, shared with tears in his eyes.

Dambara had been taken to Bayalpata Hospital at the beginning.

Bayalpata Hospital referred her to a well-equipped hospital saying that she was suffering from third-degree burns.

Since then she has been forced to turn to herbal medicine.

Dambara is the eighth grader at Shusu Sudhar Adharbhut School.

Women in this locality are still compelled to stay in shed during their periods due to deep-rooted Chhaupadi tradition.
