The second edition of BIA Awards was organized at the BIA Foundation premises -- Jorpati, on Monday, to mark the 4th year anniversary of the organization. In the event, people with disabilities showcased their musical and dance acts amid the presence of dignitaries from various sectors of the society.
Bungamati’s Daya Ram Maharjan was felicitated with the BIA Award 2018 for his continuous involvement in nurturing physically disabled children. For his contributions, he was handed over a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and memento by the chief guests, Tham Maya Thapa – Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, and Peter Budd – Australian ambassador to Nepal.

Speaking about the event, the managing director of BIA stated, “BIA award is held to encourage the people, and organizations working for the welfare of people with disabilities. Since our inception, we’ve always worked to rehabilitate, and reestablish people with disabilities by making them capable enough to sustain their life beyond the organization, by providing them with skills development training.”
BIA Foundation is an initiative of Guru Chogyal Rinpoche. It helps rehabilitate and reestablish people with disabilities into the society. The organization is currently supporting approximately 150 people, among which 50 have been benefiting from residential facilities as well.
