GORKHA, Dec 10: Gorkha District Development Committee (DDC) has sought clarifications from the World Vision International for allegedly providing false information regarding a tailoring training for earthquake victims in the district.
Following media reports on the termination of the training program after it was only half-way through, Satish Kumar Bhattarai, administrative officer at the DDC, has written to the INGO to furnish clarifications over the matter without delay.
Child Health and Environment Safe Society (CHESS) Gorkha, a partner organization of World Vision International, had organized a 45-day training but the participants, who had been brought to district headquarters from three village development committees, were sent home in three weeks.

The local partner said they were forced to cut the training short after World Vision International failed to provide the required funding.
The 30 participants summoned to district headquarters for the training were miffed after the training was aborted halfway. The participants have suffered because of disputes between World Vision International, CHESS Gorkha and the Cottage and Small Industries Development Committee. These organizations had summoned the participants from Ghyachchok, Hansapur, Kerabari and Palungtar and from among the poor in Gorkha municipality, to train them for a livelihood.
The participants wanted to operate their own tailoring businesses after completing the training. Before attending the training, they had been assured that they would be provided sowing machines, scissors, irons and other items, but none of these has been forthcoming.
Krishna Shahi, World Vision International Gorkha chief, confirmed that the clarifications were sought by the local authorities and said his office has already obliged. "We have furnished clarifications and local partner CHESS has also been asked to submit its report," he said.
However, Mohasin Ali Miya, deputy-secretary of CHESS Gorkha, said his organization will not submit any clarification since the same thing has already been sought from World Vision International. "The project term expired in November and we worked to the budget provided, but the original documents including bills have been submitted," said Miya.
