Death toll reaches to 49; more rainfall forecasted during evening

KATHMANDU, August 13: The flood and landslide following the incessant rain since Friday has claimed at least 49 people in various part of the country. According to the latest updates issued by the Home Ministry on Sunday afternoon, 36 people are missing and 17 are injured due to the flood and landslide.


Eight people have died in Sunsari whereas six are missing. Likewise, seven in Rautahat, six in Morang, and four in Sindhuli have lost their lives. Similarly, three each in Jhapa, Dang, Panchthar and Surkhet and one each in Sarlahi and Bardiya are killed due to the floods.

According to the latest updates, eight people in Makwanpur and five people in Jhapa are missing.


Meanwhile, Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecasted that central and western Tarai districts will receive further heavy rainfall from Sunday evening. The division has informed that the monsoon is gradually getting weaker in the eastern region and moving towards western region.  


Meteorologist Samir Shrestha told Republica,”The monsoon will be very active from Sunday evening in central and western region”, adding that those areas will receive heavy rainfall from the evening.


He said that few areas in the eastern region are getting rainfall though the weather is cloudy throughout the country. “Since morning the districts are getting light rain. However, that will increase from the evening and will remain till Monday morning”, said Shrestha.
