KATHMANDU, April 7: Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel has said that the decision not to proceed ahead with charges against Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), over the issue of passport misuse was not made due to political bargaining and pressure.

During a program held on Friday on the occasion of completing 100 days of his tenure, Attorney General Pokharel insisted that Lamichhane’s case has been resolved procedurally.

“The investigation was completed according to the procedure. It has nothing to do with   political bargaining and pressure," he said, adding, "You might think it is a political issue because the attorney general is appointed politically. But we decided not to pursue the case according to the law and procedure.”

Pokharel said that the police were asked to submit the file only after completing the entire investigation on Lamichhane’s passport dispute. Accordingly, the police submitted a report to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Based on the police report, the Public Prosecutor's Office decided not to proceed with the passport misuse case against Lamichhane, and the same decision was upheld by the High Public Prosecutor's Office and the Office of the Attorney General.
