Kathmandu: Vice president and Chief technology officer of ‘Water For Small Villages’, Rick Miessau from US gave a presentation on ‘The Hydraulic Ram Pump’ on Friday at Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, Pulchowk.
‘Water For Small Villages’ is a non-profit organization based in Florida, US helping those in need of clean water to live. The ram pump has been developed from an old technology that dates back to 400 years and has been adopted now to offer a new energy-free method to pump water in the villages with the help of gravity.

In the presentation, his wife Cordella Miessau, co-worker Madhav Pandey from IOE, Professor/ Director at Information and Communication Technology Center (ICTC), Shashidhar Ram Joshi among others were present at the event.
A power point presentation along with a demonstration was carried out by Rick to share the insights on Hydraulic Ram Pump to the students of Engineering. “The old technology is being re-used by society today, including the electric car, wind turbine and even the nuclear power plant” says Rick.
‘Water For Small Villages’ has been conducting the similar project in Nuwakot and other earthquake affected countries in the world.
