Departmental teams, western region into semifinals

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The semifinal line-up of the ongoing Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) second National Men's Volleyball Tournament completed on Tuesday as three departmental teams-- Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Club (APF)-- and the Western Region booked their places in the last four.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The semifinal line-up of the ongoing Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) second National Men's Volleyball Tournament completed on Tuesday as three departmental teams-- Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Club (APF)-- and the Western Region booked their places in the last four. 


Defending champion Army and Police reached to the semifinals as group A and B winners securing nine points from three matches. Similarly, other two semifinalists APF and Western Region progressed as runner-ups of the two groups respectively with equal six points from three each match.

 

Now the Army will take on Western Region in the first semifinal while the second semifinal match will be played between the Police and APF teams.

All the semifinalists including host Army, Police, APF and Western Region emerged victorious from the league round matches of the last day played at Army's Physical Fitness and Sports Training Center, Lagankhel. The Army defeated Eastern Region 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 while Police registered win with 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 25-11 over Western Region. Similarly, Central Region beat Far-Western Region 25-19, 12-25, 25-24, 25-15 and in the last match of the day, APF overcame Mid-Western Region 25-19, 25-11, 25-7. 


Meanwhile, Eastern Region, Central Region, Far-Western Region and Mid-Western Region crashed out from the league round of the tournament.
