Deuba fails to get more than 50 pc votes, second round of voting for NC president to be held today

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Despite Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba maintaining the lead, he failed to get more than 50 percent of the votes as per the statute. According to party leaders, the second round of voting will take place today and the results will also be announced today.

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Despite Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba maintaining the lead, he failed to get more than 50 percent of the votes as per the statute. According to party leaders, the second round of voting will take place today and the results will also be announced today.

A total of 4,681 votes were casted, Deuba took the lead with 2,258 votes, followed by Dr Shekhar Koirala with 1,729 votes. Similarly, Prakash Man Singh received 371 votes while Bimalendra Nidhi got 249 votes. Kalyan Gurung, another contender for the chairmanship, got 20 votes.

While Bimalendra Nidhi has already announced that he will not support Deuba in the second round of elections, it is not yet clear what Prakash Man Singh will do. However, he had highly emphasized the need to change the leadership of the Nepali Congress while seeking votes.
