POKHARA, May 24: CPN (Unified Socialist) candidate Dhanraj Acharya has secured victory as Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City.
Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Manju Devi Gurung is close to victory in the post of Deputy Mayor. Dhanraj has won the mayoral post even as some 5,000 votes are yet to be counted, while deputy mayoral candidate Gurung is close to victory.

In the local level election held on May 13, a total of 143,226 votes were cast in Pokhara Metropolitan City. Of which, 138,211 votes have been counted till Tuesday morning. Now, only 5,015 votes remain to be counted. Partial votes of wards 22, 32 and 33 of Pokhara Metropolitan City are yet to be counted.
So far, CPN (Unified Socialist) candidate Acharya has received 56,471 votes, while his closest rival Krishna Thapa of the CPN-UML got 51,185 votes. Shankar Kharal of RPP polled 5,579 votes for the post of deputy mayor as his nearest rival Ganesh Poudel, an independent candidate, received 2,986 votes.
UML's Manju Devi Gurung is also close to victory in the post of Deputy Mayor with 58,582 votes. She came close to victory as Nepali Congress candidate Kopila Ranabhat is 4,035 votes behind her already.
While Gurung got 58,582 votes, Ranabhat has so far secured 54,547 votes. RPP's Ranjana Sen has polled 5,581 votes for the post of Deputy Mayor.
