Discussing the development of Nepali painting

The scholars elaborated the history of Nepali painting. They talked about the need of policies in national level; need to include art education in school level; use of the internet; entrepreneurship, encouragement, and self-respect for artists; and more for the promotion of Nepali painting worldwide.

Department of Painting of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) organized a seminar on the topic 'Development and Promotion of Nepali Contemporary Painting' at SAF Falcha, Babermahal on Monday.

In the seminar, three scholars — Mukesh Malla, Dr Yam Sharma, and Ganesh Kumar GC presented their paper on the same. The scholars elaborated the history of Nepali painting. They talked about the need of policies in national level; need to include art education in school level; use of the internet; entrepreneurship, encouragement, and self-respect for artists; and more for the promotion of Nepali painting worldwide. Then they also talked about the challenges and obstacles that hinder the development and promotion of Nepali art and questioned lack of interest in the coverage of art's happening in Nepali media.


Meanwhile, scholars like Junu Basukala, Eka Ram Singh and Tirtha Niraula commented on their presentation. In the seminar, Chancellor of NAFA K K Karmacharya, Vice-Chancellor Gopal Chitrakar, Former Chancellor of NAFA Kiran Manandhar, HoD of Painting Department, NAFA Sushma Rajbhandri, and Secretary Member Bipin Ghimire, among others were present. Rajbhandari ended the seminar with a vote of thanks where she showed determination to continue to promote Nepali art in national and international level.
