The trailer and the songs of Malang, over the last few weeks, have offered a clear glimpse of the character Disha Patani plays in the film. She plays the carefree Sara who lives life on the edge in the Mohit Suri film which also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor in key roles. “After playing girls who I could somewhat relate with in my previous films, I needed to play a little bit of myself. Sara’s character in Malang gave me that chance,” says Disha, when asked what had egged her on to play a character which is a departure from her demure roles so far.

She adds, “Sara is a lot like me. It was important to hear someone sounding like me; it was also easier to play a girl who is like me. Of course, I am not as carefree as her and I don’t live life from one high to another but I am independent, exploring life and trying to understand who I am and what I want. Mohit sir is like a mentor to me and he’s amazing when it comes to presenting his leading ladies beautifully. I felt I was in great hands because I simply loved the way he presented Shraddha Kapoor in Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain. I am usually very messy and he captured that with very little make-up on my face. His sensibilities stem from the fact that he’s a loving husband and father and he presents women with a lot of care and caution.”
