LAMJUNG, Sept 13: Keeping in mind the possibility of swindling people and black-marketing in the countdown to the upcoming festivals, the District Monitoring Committee (DMC), Lamjung, has started monitoring various markets of the district from Tuesday.

The monitoring is being conducted under the supervision of the District Administration Office (DAO), Lamjung. Its main objective is to safeguard consumers' rights and prevent over-charging by the traders on the eve of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals.

“Many traders may charge exorbitant prices for food and other essentials,” said Chief District Officer (CDO) Yuwak Raj Mainali. “That is why we are giving top priority to market monitoring.”

On the first day of monitoring, the team strolled through the streets of Besisahar, Purano Baikchow and Manange Chautara. They found medicines, meat, fruits and other consumer goods without dates mentioned or with expired dates kept for sale. Despite finding such products, the DAO said the market has improved in terms of quality compared to last year.

“We found more problems in pharmacies. During the monitoring, we suggested shopkeepers to keep outdated products separate from the sellable ones,” said Assistant CDO Tirtha Bahadur Adhikari. “DAO's market monitoring is necessary and important. But we can achieve the best result only if both the consumers and sellers become aware,” he added, pledging to continue market monitoring.
