KATHMANDU, Sept 27: In response to a disturbing pattern of attacks on medical professionals, doctors have staged protests in the streets.

The catalyst for these protests was a series of assaults on doctors, including an incident at Manipal Teaching Hospital, which culminated in a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Wednesday.

As the attacks on healthcare workers continued, doctors rallied for their safety and demanded immediate action to enforce the Health Workers and Health Institutions (First Amendment) Act, 2079, which is aimed at safeguarding healthcare professionals and institutions.

During the protest, Dr Shesh Raj Ghimire, one of the doctors participating in the demonstration, spoke to the media. He emphatically called for the government to swiftly arrest and take legal action against the culprits.

Ghimire stressed that mere agreements were insufficient, and their protest would persist until concrete steps were taken to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

He emphasized that wrongdoers should not be shielded, and the government should not remain passive when doctors are subjected to repeated attacks.
