DOLPA, Sept 20: Of late, residents of some parts of Dolpa district are able to use telecommunication service only when there is sunlight. This is because of recent landslides that caused severe damages to the battery of solar panels installed at Nepal Telecom's tower.

On September 4, landslides in Dunai damaged Jarigad-based hydropower center, depriving the locals of electricity. The same landslides also caused damages to NT's solar panel batteries.

Following the incident, people are able to use their mobile phones only when there is good sunshine.

The remaining solar batteries at the telecom office do not produce sufficient power. Nonetheless, locals are still able to use ADSL landline service provided by the telecom, informed Daya Bikram KC, chief of Dolpa-chapter of Nepal Telecom.

“Base Transceiver Station (BTS) system consumes high electricity due to which power supply has also been disrupted in the district,” KC said. He added that they are still unable to operate mobile telephone service without sunlight.

With the unavailability of telephone network, the locals of Thuli Bheri Municipality and Tripura Sundari Municipality along with Dunai, the headquarters of Dolpa district, are facing lots of problems in communication.

According to the office, they would be able to solve the problem within a week if Nepal Telecom's regional office provides backup battery as soon as possible.
