Don’t think I’m completely over depression: Deepika

MUMBAI, Oct 7: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone became the talk of the town when her first look as Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' was released. A recent report had claimed that shooting the self-immolation scene in the film, had a lasting effect on the actress, who has spoken openly about her battle with depression in the past.

MUMBAI, Oct 7: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone became the talk of the town when her first look as Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' was released. A recent report had claimed that shooting the self-immolation scene in the film, had a lasting effect on the actress, who has spoken openly about her battle with depression in the past.


In a recent interview, Deepika revealed that her battle with depression had been "such a bad experience" that she always carries the fear of a relapse. She said, "I don't think I can say that I'm completely over it (depression). There is always a fear at the back of my mind that I might have a relapse because it has been such a bad experience for me."

When she was questioned if her condition had ever cost her any film, Deepika said, "Maybe there are people who haven't offered me films because they think I was depressed and I can't act. Maybe, I don't know. I'm in a good space because I can choose the movies that I want to act in, but I don't think everyone has that luxury of where they want to work or when they want to work."


The brave star, who went public about her battle with depression even said, "I didn't think about the repercussions. The idea really was to change the way people in India and the world see mental illness."


Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, 'Padmavati' also stars Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in pivotal roles is slated to hit the big screen on December 1.
