Dordikhola Hydropower Project begins power generation

LAMJUNG, August 29: The Dordikhola Hydropower Project in Lamjung district has begun test production from Sunday.   


The project with the capacity of 27 megawatt commenced test production after completing the entire construction works, Project Chief Munna Shakya said. 


According to Shakya, the test production will continue for four to five days and the commercial production of the power will begin once the test production is successful.

Powerhouse of the project is located at Ramchowkbesi of Besisahar Municipality-11 in Lamjung district.


The construction work of the project started in 2016. Although the project was supposed to generate power in two and a half years it got delayed due to India's economic blockade on Nepal, flood in the powerhouse in the Marsyangdi River last year, lockdown imposed during the coronavirus period and several other technical reasons.


The total cost of the project is estimated to have reached around Rs 4.64 billion although it was expected to be completed with an investment of Rs 4.23 billion.


Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has invested 35.7 percent, IME Group 34.3 percent and 30 percent is funded by the public for the project development.
