Dov Simens’ two-day film school is considered one of the most successful film making workshops in the world. Dov has so far conducted this workshop in 34 different countries and this time Kathmandu School of Cinema and the US Embassy, Kathmandu are presenting it here in Nepal.

The workshop will solely focus on business part of the show biz industry. The participants of the workshop will be taught the art of film making and film selling in low budget.

At a press meet held on Wednesday, Dov answered few questions of Republica’s Prasansha Rimal.

What do you think Nepali film industry should focus on?

Nepali film industry lacks proper technique of storytelling and knowledge of world market business. Nepali film industry needs to focus on how to present 40-60 scene movies with primary story and three sub plots.

Have you had any experience of working with anyone form South Asia who was able to get box office hit?

|

The first Asian country I ever went to was Singapore. There are many people in Singapore who have taken my class and now are famous in Singapore and other Asian countries. Royston Tan, Ang Lee are some of the renowned people from Asia who have taken my class. My class has very high success rate.

How will Nepali film industry benefit from the workshop?

They will understand how to go global and be comfortable in making feature films. I will be teaching step by step formula to go global. They first day I will be teaching how to get that quality to go global and the basics is storytelling and script writing. It’s not that Nepali film industry doesn’t have the talent but it needs a push to be able to compete in international market.

Do you think two-day long workshop will be enough for Nepali film industry to go global?

Alfred Hitchcock, a famous English film director, said everything you can learn about film making can be learnt in 2-3 days if you are an adult and have talent and work ethic. And my workshop is not for children, and yes I believe two days is enough.

Do you have any message for the Nepali film industry?

Just do it!
