DPM Shrestha urges to speed up construction of India funded projects

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha has discussed with the Indian officials the progress and problems of projects run with Indian cooperation in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha has discussed with the Indian officials the progress and problems of projects run with Indian cooperation in Nepal.


Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha urged the officials including the Additional Secretary at India's External Affairs Ministry Prabhat Kumar, who visited the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to pay a courtesy call with Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha, to speed up the physical infrastructure projects.

Secretary at the Ministry Keshav Kumar Sharma informed Republica that the Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha had requested the Indian Secretary for facilitation regarding the Janakpur-Jaynagar railway being operated with Indian assistance, the projects advanced with the loan assistance of the Export- Import Bank (EXIM) of India.


“Due to the courtesy meeting, there was no discussion about the overall aspects of the project. But there was an important discussion about solving the problems and completing the project quickly,” Secretary Sharma said.


Secretary Sharma said that there was an important discussion on the Kathmandu-Raxaul railway and other projects. The detailed design of the railway is being prepared. “Important ideas were exchanged on the topic of continuing the discussion and finding all the ways to solve the problems in the project,” he said.
