KATHMANDU, Jan 17:  Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Gagan Thapa on Thursday said that Dr Govinda KC is not associated with any political parties at a time when the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leaders are publicly claiming his affiliation to the NC.

Organizing a press meet in the capital today, Thapa clarified Dr KC is not a supporter of any political parties but a crusader for reforms in the medical education.

Meanwhile, Thapa came down heavily on the government saying that it is unfortunate to see Dr KC to go for 16th hunger strike for the same cause. “Dr KC is not associated with any political parties. He is the selfless crusader for reforms in the medical education sector,” denouncing the public questions why KC is staging hunger strikes for several times for the same cause.

Sushil Koirala was the prime minister during KC’s fifth, sixth and seventh hunger strikes, Sher Bahadur Deuba was the prime minister during his 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th hunger strikes.

Similarly, KC staged 1st and 2nd hunger strike during the premiership of Dr Baburam Bhattarai and third and fourth hunger strike during then Chairman of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi. Likewise, KC staged 9th and 10th hunger strike during the premiership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal and 8th, 15th and 16th hunger strikes during the premiership of KP Sharma Oli.

Thapa has urged the government to save Dr KC’s life without delay by implementing the agreement reached with him in the past.

Senior orthopedic surgeon KC resorted to 16th hunger strike after the Education and Health Committee of the Legislature Parliament endorsed the bill without incorporating his demands on January 9.
