JUMLA, July 6: Stating that no action of the government other than addressing his demands for medical education reforms is important, Dr Govinda KC has refused the services of doctors sent to Jumla, where he is on a fast-unto-death since the last six days. “The health personnel in Jumla itself will save my life, I will not accept help from the team sent by the government,” said the senior orthopedic surgeon. This is his 15th fast-unto-death in support of his cause.
Following deterioration in his condition, Dr KC was rushed to an intensive care unit at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences yesterday. He said today that the team that arrived from Kathmandu is not needed by him; the government should rather focus on medical reforms. “I refuse to be treated by the doctors from Kathmandu; the doctors in Jumla will save my life,” Dr KC said.

Dr Jeewan Thapa and Dr Subash Regmi landed in Jumla to attend to him. Dr KC has asked them to return to Kathmandu. “It is better to ensure the health of the general public by addressing my demands. There is no need to send doctors for me,” he further said.
Meanwhile, Dr Pujan Rokaya noted that Dr KC has shown much faith in the doctors in Jumla. “He has said that he needs no doctor from elsewhere. He says we can save his life,” Dr Rokaya said. Of late KIHS has been handling even critical medical cases.
NC leaders speak for Dr KC
Nepali Congress lawmakers who visited Dr KC on Thursday have raised a strong voice in support of him. They have stated that the government will be forced to kneel before his demands. “Ignoring him or his demands shows apathy towards the public’s health. It is against the people’s right to health care,” said lawmaker Prakash Snehi. He added that the government is being insensitive.
Lawmakers Snehi, Rajmati Shani and Dinbhandu Shrestha arrived in Jumla to see Dr KC. The lawmakers have demanded that the medical education bill be brought ‘openly and sincerely and not through a back window’.
