Govt prepares draft regulation to govern social media platforms

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has prepared a draft of the bill for the regulation and management of social sites.


The government is preparing to present the bill in the federal parliament for regulating social sites amid growing concerns of the misuse of social media platforms to incite violence and disturb religious harmony.

At an orientation organized by the Advertisement Board on Thursday, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Netra Prasad Subedi, said the bill was prepared based on the request of ordinary people and various stakeholders. He added that the draft would be made public soon for feedback. 


Sharing that such type of law is going to be formulated for the first time, Subedi mentioned that the law would also address the issue of advertisement regulation in order to stop misuse of social sites and misinformation in social sites and harms caused by it.
