DRI files cases against four individuals accused of using fake identity of Nepal Army to smuggle Rajanigandha

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) on Tuesday filed cases at the High Court, Patan, against four individuals accused of smuggling goods.


The DRI filed charge sheets against the accused persons who were found allegedly evading customs duty. Ram Sharan Bogati from Baghe of Lukhu Rural Municipality-3, Nuwakot; Amit Kumar Sah from Malhaniya Khori of Mirchaiya Municipality-2, Siraha and Namaraj Timilsina and Tirtha Raj Dhakal from Simtole of Panchadeval Binayak Municipality-1, Achham were found involved in the misconducts.

According to the DRI, the four accused used a truck with a fake registration number to smuggle 24 cartoons (311.04 kg) of Rajanigandha (tobacco products). They even used a fake logo and banner of Nepal Army on the truck to ferry the contraband.   


The DRI has sought Rs 1.84 million in fine and jail term as per the law against the accused. The DRI has also expedited the process to confiscate the truck used to ferry the contraband.
