KATHMANDU, May 17: Prof Dr Laxman Gyawali of Kathmandu University has said that dyslexia or the difficulty that appears during the learning of children is not a disease but a condition.
In an interaction held today at Kathmandu University in Hattiban, he presented a study paper on the condition of 'dyslexia' and said that parents and teachers are troubled as children show symptoms such as inability to recognize letters, problems in understanding, writing letters upside down, speaking less, shyness etc.

However, he said that after finding out the cause of these symptoms, teachers and parents can treat such children through counseling. He said that in his study, 10 percent of students in Nepal are suffering from dyslexia.
In the two-day 'multidisciplinary international' conference organized by Nepal English Language Teachers Association (NELTA), English Language Teachers Association of India (ELTA), experts from various subjects presented papers. Experts from Nepal, India, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries participated in the conference.
More than 40 experts, including Professor Motikala Subba Dewan, Dr KS Antonsiam at Loyola College, Chennai, India, Head of Department of English Language, Kathmandu University, Tikaram Paudel, an undergraduate student of Sichuan University, Prasant Kumar BK, among others, participated in the conference.
NELTA's National Program Coordinator Bikash Rimal said that the aim of the conference is to discuss and understand the views of multi-level experts in Nepal.
